Kenyans Abroad Encouraged to Invest in Their Homeland

The Kenyan government is making a concerted effort to engage its diaspora population, urging Kenyans living abroad to increase their investments in Kenya and explore opportunities to create jobs for their compatriots back home.

This call to action was delivered by the Director of the Liaison & Partnerships Division at the State Department of Diaspora Affairs Ann Wanjohi during a recent Diaspora Forum and cultural event held in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. Highlighting the importance of financial empowerment, Ms Wanjohi emphasized the need for robust investment networks. She advocated for the establishment of channels that would enable financial growth and also foster a sense of belonging and solidarity among the Kenyan diaspora.

Her address went beyond investment, urging the diaspora community to leverage their skills and technological expertise. She called for initiatives that promote the transfer of these valuable assets along with the creation of trade routes that would facilitate the export of Kenyan products and services to their host countries. The State Department of Diaspora Affairs acknowledged the impressive turnout of Kenyans residing in Tanzania at the event.

This strong presence underlines the department’s focus on collaborating with both governmental and non-governmental entities. They aim to establish structures and systems that empower the diaspora to fully contribute to Kenya’s social and economic progress. Titled “Forging Networks and Harnessing the Full Potential of the Kenya Diaspora in Tanzania,” the forum attracted a diverse range of participants, including government officials and representatives from the private sector.

The department actively encourages individuals to share their experiences and participate in cultural celebrations, enabling a strong connection to their homeland despite geographical distance. This approach not only strengthens the sense of community within the diaspora but also allows them to contribute their unique experiences and perspectives to Kenya’s development.
