Life is at its Worst, Says US-Based Kenyan Athlete Emmanuel Korir over Covid-19 Lockdown

US-based Kenyan athlete Emmanuel Korir has described the lockdown in the US as the most difficult time in his life.

Most of the country under lockdown after cases of Covid-19 continue to surge. as of Friday, April 17th, the US has recorded the worst number of infections and deaths in the world, at 670,000  and 35,000 respectively.

Korir, the Africa 800m silver medalist, says he feels disappointed that he can no longer train due to the restriction and wishes he was in Kenya.

He notes that although the Kenyan government ordered the closure of training camps, athletes in Kenya are able to do individual training, which will give them an edge over those in foreign countries once the crisis ends.

“We are not allowed to do any kind of training. Luckily, back home in Kenya, I could run in the forest alone or conduct some training on my own unlike here. Life is at its worst but I have to try my best to survive,” says Korir.

Korir was part of the Kenyan team that won the 4x400m relays title at the Africa Athletics Championships in Asaba, Nigeria in 2018.

“I had good plans this year and I was ready to compete at the Doha Diamond League opener but all that is water under the bridge. I have nothing to look forward to. No one had expected this pandemic,” Korir adds.

Korir is a kinesiology student at the University of Texas at El Paso and says he is attending online classes. “I do my studies by attending online classes that keep me busy, killing off the boredom,” he says.

Guys…he is a world class athlete. This is not your morning run. You can’t compare you keeping in shape to his preparation for the Diamond League. That’s like telling a NFL player to keep in shape by doing leg lifts in the backyard.

Back yard works too! He can rip raps around his quarters, go up the stairs, run through the hall ways and then back to the yard in back! Kipchoge Keino did it without training field!

Make wine with the sour grapes that you currently have in your possession. Gripping will not help you! Believe you-me, you are in a much better position than a lot of other people else (Kenya included) where in the world! Please stop ? complaining unnecessarily!!!

This guy is exaggerating the covid19 lock down for whatever reason. He sounds unable to do any kind of alternative planning for his running training.

Anyone living in the large state of Texas can find alternative places to run away from the designated running tracks. Ati he has nothing to look forward to because everything is now water under the bridge?

Which water under which bridge?? Stop frustrating yourself with the insignificancies of daily life! Accept the current situation, adapt to it and find alternative ways to overcome! At least you are still healthy and alive. Many have unfortunately died from covid19 prematurely. Learn to count you blessing in the midst of adversity and stop complaining over small stuff!

Not sure if there is limitation to going out on the trails on your own for your runs…….. some of us are able to do runs just like you stated on the article that Kenyan athletes are able to run out in the forests on their own…….there is a little bit of exaggeration on your story

I run every day from 4:30 AM to 6:30 AM on the side-walks!, and I am very close to his current location.
There are no people walking around at that time.

You can make your own “running trails in any forest” any where in the world if you are creative enough.Tou don’t have to have huge trees with monkeys swinging across the trail while making some funny noise to cheer you on.

You can run across the Pacific Ocean and get back to the forests of Eldoret, Kenya to train there. Just make sure to wear some boat-like shoes so you don’t sink.

I think you are just lazy and you don’t want to train! You sound like a small mama boy! Huyu hataki ku-train! He is exaggerating his situation a little bit too much!
