Family Bank Board of Directors has announced the death of their recently chosen chairperson, Francis Gitau Mungai.
Mungai’s association with Family Bank dates back to 1996 when he first supported the bank as a loyal customer and a professional architect. Mungai initially served as the vice chairman for two years before being elevated to the position of chairman just three weeks before his untimely demise while receiving medical treatment in the United States. During his tenure, Mungai chaired the Board Credit Committee and the Board Human Resource Committee, while also serving as an active member of the Nominations and Governance Committee. Additionally, he served as a director of Pesa Pap Digital Ltd, a subsidiary of Family Bank Ltd.
Beyond his official roles, Mungai’s expertise in the field of architecture and contract management was widely recognized. With over three decades of professional experience, he co-founded Aaki Consultants, Architects, and Urban Designers, and his expertise extended to prominent firms like Triad Architects in Nairobi and Urban Innovation Group (UIG) in Los Angeles. Mungai’s academic credentials were equally impressive, holding a Master’s Degree in Architecture from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and a Bachelor of Architecture degree with First-Class Honours from the University of Nairobi.
Mungai’s commitment to education was evident during his long tenure as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Nairobi, where he imparted his knowledge and shaped the minds of future architects. His professional achievements were further solidified by being a Fellow of the Architectural Association of Kenya (FAAK) and his registration by the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors of Kenya. The loss of Francis Gitau Mungai is profoundly felt not only by Family Bank but also by the architectural community. The Family Bank Board of Directors and Management extend their heartfelt condolences to Mungai’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.
