World Marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum and his coach Garvais Hakizimana died in a road accident on Sunday.
The two died along the Elegy Market-Ravine road on Sunday around 11pm, according to Elgeyo Market Police Commander Peter Mulinge.
Kiptum was the driver of the Toyota Premio, say police. He reportedly lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and hit a tree before landing in a ditch.
Kiptum’s marathon record of 2 hours and 35 seconds was ratified last week by the World Athletics. He was due to represent Kenya at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

This is so unfortunate.May he rest in peace.Very sad incidences of two Kenyans dying from their cars hitting trees .One in USA,and then Kiptum and his trainer. I believe he is from Rwanda,or Burundi…Shocking and humbling series of events indeed.Sadly some accidents are just so destructive whether avoidable or not. There are no words that can effectively console and comfort the grieving families, and friends.Only time will reduce the pain…And life goes on.

Proverbs 15:2
ESV The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly. NIV The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly. NASB The tongue of the wise makes knowledge pleasant, But the mouth of fools spouts foolishness.
What really happened to…
What really happened to cause him to loose control of his vehicle? Mechanical failure or driver fault? Such great success coming at a tender age does tend to overwhelm. I know that I myself, at that age, would have been overwhelmed beyond my capacity to think straight. I believe that our young and successful stars need to have minders, if only to protect them from themselves.
You know, for twenty…
You know, for twenty something people, death is never in the vocabulary! But you have always to be grateful once you make it through your teens and twenties!!!
