The Ministry of Interior has announced that a total of 70,629 passports are now available for collection throughout the country.

Previously, a backlog of 87,454 passports lay uncollected in the Directorate of Immigration headquarters and regional offices. Every Wednesday, the Immigration Department posts an updated list of collection schedules for the proceeding week. In a move to rectify the long-standing backlog, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki committed to rolling out a 30-day plan dubbed the Rapid Results Initiative which commenced on September 25, 2023.

As of October 20, 2023, more than 60,000 passports have been collected. However, fresh passport applications keep pouring in despite constant efforts to clear the backlog. Furthermore, a commendable 43,000 passports have been printed since introducing the Rapid Results Initiative. It is advisable for applicants to verify the status of their submission through authorized communication platforms such as the eCitizen portal and the Directorate of Immigration offices countrywide. According to Kithure Kindiki, the new passport collection initiative aims to expedite the delivery of services while eliminating bureaucracy.

From October 23 to Friday, October 27, 2023, individuals will be able to collect their passports from the immigration regional offices. In Nairobi, there will be 7,500 passports available for collection at Nyayo House. Additionally, there will be 1,262 passports in Kisumu, 1,771 in Embu, and 1,501 in Kisii. In Nakuru, 1,002 passports are ready for collection, while 1,547 have been printed and are awaiting collection in Mombasa. Lastly, in Eldoret, 1725 passports will be ready for collection in the upcoming week.
