Kenyan University Student Held in Saudi Arabia Rescued

Diana Chepkemoi, the Kenyan woman who was being held by her Saudi Arabian employer against her will has finally been rescued following a public uproar.

On Saturday, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa said he contacted Labor CS Simon Chelugui who confirmed that Diana was rescued and taken to hospital for treatment, adding that a medical assessment was being undertaken to ascertain her suitability to fly.

“A physical visit to the hospital has been arranged tomorrow by our commercial attaché to ascertain her health condition. The medical assessment being undertaken will also confirm suitability to fly something that is running concurrently with her exit visa processing,” said Barasa.

This came after photos of a frail-looking and sickly Diana went viral on social media, with Kenyans calling for her rescue.

Her sister Lorrain Cheptoo told a local media that Diana, a student at Meru University, was being held by her Saudi employer who denied her medical attention after she fell ill.

Diana, 21, traveled to the Gulf state last year in search of greener pastures after deferring her studies at Meru University due to financial problems.

Susan Makungu, the agent who facilitated Diana’s travel and employment in Saudi Arabia, said it was hard to rescue her since she was working for a “high-profile” individual.

“Diana told me she is sick and has lost a lot of weight, and I made plans with our partners in Saudi Arabia. Diana’s case is taking long because I am told she works for a high-profile individual and the authority there are scared to access the home,” she said.

“I am ready to pay the air ticket, I am waiting for foreign affairs and the Kenyan embassy to go to the house and give her an exit. She is not lying she is speaking the truth, she is sick and they are mistreating her.”

    • It will continue for as long…
It will continue for as long as we continue to devalue ourselves as Kenyans, as Africans. As long as we keep embracing corruption and look the other way when it happens. As long as we vote in bad leaders, not based on merit but on tribal affiliations – we will continue to be slaves to other races

Is Barasa trying to win public support, and also repair his damaged name after allegations that he killed one his rival’s staff member? Anyway, we welcome support, assistance, and goodwill from all human beings with kind hearts, and love.

“DCI, it is useless for you to write us threads here every day if you can’t arrest those agents who are engaging in modern slavery in the guise of “work abroad”. You claim to be recognized internationally, time to use those connections,” Kiprono.

Don’t send your relatives to the Arab countries, they will enslave them.

  4. ‘High-profile” individual’,…
‘High-profile” individual’, I would be damn.
Who on earth did give high-profile” individuals the right to Maim, mistreat or even Kill?
The issue here is the Kenyan government has failed to take a hard stand on Saudi Arabia. Secondly, some of ways Kenyans can find employment is being in diaspora.
Thirdly, the Kenyan government has failed to control the hiring agencies in Kenya.
Let’s just assume this was in USA or Britain, all parties involved would be in jail by now.
Again, to these folks mistreating our brothers and sisters, Prophet Muhammad [RIP] is turning in his grave, knowing that this is not what the Holy Quran dictates.
The good thing is she is free .
The said part is no one will be charged.

    • @Kora Kanini, I respectfully…
@Kora Kanini, I respectfully deffer with you on Muhammad’s position was on humab rights for the following reasons.

      1.Mohammad himself owned african slaves
2.He married a six year old
3.Apart from 8major battles he hard 38 military raids
4.Mohammad made his father inlaw drunk in order to secure his wedding to Khadija
5.The prophet lusted and had sex with his step son’s wife.
6.Mohammed the prophet just about lusted after every beautiful woman he saw.
7.He said kill all christians and jews where ever you find them till the profess that Allah is the only God and Muhammad His prophet…
8 He allowed the beating of wives.even his wife had to comment that she had never seen women who suffer as much as the belivers. This as after she had see a wife beaten till her skin was green.
      8. According Koran, Christians and Jews are the worst of the creatures.
Ofcourse some of these “stories” are so embarrassing that denial is expected from muslim apologists.
So given this background, I highly doubt if Mohammad would have cared for our sisters suffering in Saudi Arabia, especially if they are Kafirs.
Undoubtedly there are some good things that a billion muslims see in him.But Stabbing Salmon Rashdie is not one of them, when Islam allows for the killing of apostates.

  5. High profile Arabian…
High profile Arabian individuals are free to neglect and detain their workers in contravention of the law? An employment agency is admitting inability to rescue a client on these grounds? Susan Makungu, how is your business different from modern day slave trade?
