Ahmed Muktar Sworn-in as Wajir Governor Following Mohamed Abdi's Impeachment

Wajir Deputy Governor Ahmed Ali Muktar has been sworn in as the new Governor.

Muktar took an oath of office during a ceremony held at Wajir County headquarters on Tuesday morning.

His swearing-in follows the impeachment of former Governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud on grounds of gross violation of the Constitution and other laws.

On Monday, the Senate endorsed the decision by the Wajir County Assembly to impeach the governor.

25 Senators voted in favor Abdi’s impeachment, two voted against while four abstained.

This came after a special Senate Committee tasked with investigating the charges leveled against Governor Abdi by the County Assembly found him guilty of violating the Constitution, the County Government Act 2012, the Public and Procurement and Disposal Act 2015, and the Public Finance Management Act 2012.

Abdi was facing two main charges; gross violation of the Constitution and others laws, which was supported by 15 allegations, and abuse of office, which was supported by two allegations.
