Boost for Kenyan Job Seekers as Qatar Opens Labor Office in Nairobi

Qatar has opened a labor office in Nairobi to help thousands of Kenyans who travel to the Gulf nation annually in search of jobs.

The opening of the new office means Kenyans seeking to work in Qatar will leave the country aware of their terms of employment.

Labor Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui said job seekers will have details such as type of job, salary, accommodation, and other labor-related issues before leaving the country for Qatar.

“With a labor office here in Nairobi, Kenyans leaving for Qatar will now have definitive terms of employment once they get there. This will be a departure from the past where someone leaves the country as a technician only to get there as a maid,” said Chelugui.

The establishment of the office came after Qatar sought permission from the Kenyan government to open a labor department in Nairobi as part of its efforts to help Kenyans seeking jobs in the Middle East country.

Earlier this year, CS Chelugui met with the Qatari Ambassador in Kenya Ibrahim Mohammed Abdulrahman Alabdullah to discuss issues concerning labor migration.

“With the establishment of this office, it will reduce some of the challenges faced, such as contract substitution, activities of unregistered agencies/brokers, and cost of recruitment,” added Chelugui.

Kenya and Qatar have also agreed to jointly increase the number of skilled Kenyan workers going to Qatar, especially in the medical field.

  2. Why can’t Kenya government…
Why can’t Kenya government create jobs for Kenyans? The current administration is borrowing money like is being given for free so all these loans should create jobs.

  3. Kenyans, let us join hands…
Kenyans, let us join hands and create employment for our own people. 400 years of slavery are over. It’s time to love one another and keep our families together, not apart. Let us avoid the sufferings of our families in foreign lands.
New contracts but same players. Nothing new!! Let us try something different. Like putting the wellbeing of our families first instead of money.Time is ripe. When we start watching and caring for our families, we will achieve peace for us and posterity!!
Let us put our children and families first.

    • @Anonymous UI, what you have…
@Anonymous UI, what you have suggested seems to be common sense and straight forward.Create our own Jobs. Three things come to mind.
      1. If it were easy, could have been done longtime ago.
2.We lack the will to do it
3.The government is not doing enough to create attractive economic environment.
Iam sure our think tanks will come up with a solution. One thing is clear, with a population of over 50 million people, we have great opportunity to cloth, feed, school, transport, house, treat, jail, entertain…You get the idea. And all these translates to great Job opportunities.

@Maxiley, I agree with you. Where there is will, there is a way. Our problem is following our leaders. This has been the case for too long.
It’s time we do it ourselves and let our leaders follow the path that we create, not the other way around.
We need to be organized and determined and reject anything that takes jobs away from Kenyans.
Kenyans have already started rejecting IMF help. Soon it will be everything else foreign other than what we are not capable of creating.
The energy and creativity and grassroot organization that we need is not with the government, it is with Wanjiku. We just need to activate it!!!

Waiting for this colonial govt home-guard “leaders” is like sheep gravitating to the wolves.

But seriously, I googled this so-called labor office but there is no info on it. Only several news posts almost verbatim of this announcement. These sleeping journalists post no link, no contact but splash a big photo of the minister like we care. Also all these statements are all taken from his mouth. In other words no independent verification. During COVID, id expect a link to this portal. Ama this is just a way to entice the “maids” and pages to trek to this office to change cartels. Instead of shady-people smuggler, its now a well-connected middle-man on the govt payroll doing the deals.
We dont need no qatar, saudi, oman mboch jobs as much as they need us. Lets face it, we are simply providing cheap labor to these warabus who are exploiting the situation. Make em answer first what happened to all those missing black refugees in libya, the mistreated and abused ones in the middle east. Aah, dont get me started. Anyway lazima tujitetee. Real Africans know this is BS. Watumwa and their money sponsors will do as their told. Its time we stood up and made a change.

  5. Most of the very high…
Most of the very high quality jobs and wealth in the world economy today is being created in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math(STEM). So I think that the Government and the private education sector should do even more than they are doing right now to ensure that we have very high quality graduate and post graduate programs in our universities in the fields of STEM. Then we need a critical mass of students who will seek to thrive in these fields. I think that this is one of the steps that would help us as a country to be more competitive in the global economy in these STEM fields and jobs.
