A total of 257 Kenyan healthcare workers have so far been infected with Covid-19, according to the Health Ministry.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Wednesday said the medics contracted the virus in the line of duty even as he assured of the government’s commitment to protecting frontline workers.

“For all those who have been exposed, I want to assure them that the government is committed to ensuring that all our front line soldiers are protected at all times by making available the necessary PPEs and other commodities.”

“I, therefore, want to take this opportunity to thank all health care workers for putting their lives at risk as we manage our patients,” said Kagwe.

On Wednesday, 278 people tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of caseloads in the country to 8,528. A total of 196,508 samples have been tested for Covid-19 so far.

89 patients were discharged from various health facilities raising the tally of recoveries to 2,593. The death toll rose to 169 after two more patients succumbed to the virus.
