Court Directs Uhuru, Raila to Record Statements in Leaked CCTV Footage Case

A Nairobi court has directed an investigating officer to record the statements of President Uhuru and ODM leader Raila Odinga within seven days.

Uhuru and Raila are listed as complainants in a case where two suspects are accused of leaking CCTV footage of their tour to Nairobi CBD last month.

The suspects, Rading Ambogo and Magoma Ayonga, were on June 17th charged with the offense of unauthorized interception of computer data contrary to section 17(1) of the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crime Act.

The charge sheet read that the accused persons intercepted a security CCTV footage showing Uhuru and Raila driving into the city center to inspect development projects being undertaken by the newly-formed Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS). They are said to have committed the offense on June 2nd at around 8 pm.

The two denied the charge leveled against them and were released on a cash bail of Sh10,000 or Sh30,000 bond each.

On Thursday, defense lawyer Danstan Omari told the court that one of the accused persons is apprehensive, psychologically traumatized and fears for her safety.

“We had requested statements from the complainant who is the President of this country and Raila Odinga who were alleged to have been in the entourage. To date those statements have not come,” he said.

Omari also asked to be provided with the original CCTV footage that captured Uhuru’s entourage on the said day. The case will be mentioned on July 9th.
