Police Hunt for 50 People Who Escaped from Quarantine in Nairobi [VIDEO]

Police in Nairobi have launched a manhunt for at least 50 people who allegedly escaped from quarantine on Tuesday, April 21st.

The escapees are among persons who had been placed under quarantine at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Nairobi.

They are said to have fled after police officers guarding the facility went to cover themselves from the rain in a nearby building.

A video shared on social media shows some of the culprits scaling the facility’s perimeter wall before fleeing.

Some of the suspects were still waiting for their Covid-19 test results after samples were taken to the lab, according to Citizen TV.

Health CAS Dr. Mercy Mwangangi said investigations into the incident are ongoing. “The Ministry of Interior is following up on the KMTC issue and we will be able to update once investigations are undertaken,” she said.

Speaking during an interview with various Swahili FM stations at State House on Wednesday, President Uhuru said the identities of the escapees are known and that they will be arrested and taken back to the facility.

“Even to those we saw escaping, do not think you have won, we shall find you, you will come back and will continue with quarantine, you will go back to the facility,” said Kenyatta.

“Why should you be a burden to Kenyans abiding by the law, why should you flout the guideline and go roam about?,” he quiped.
