Starehe MP Charles Njagua alias Jaguar is set to spend five more days at Kileleshwa Police Station to allow officers to conclude investigations into his incitement case.
On Friday, the court granted the prosecution three working days – excluding Saturday and Sunday – to complete investigations into the case.
The prosecution had on Thursday sought to have the politician detained for 14 days at Kamukunji Police Station to allow them to finalize their investigations.
Jaguar was charged with incitement against foreigner traders before Milimani Law Courts Senior Resident Magistrate Sinkyani Tobiko.
He was arrested by plain-clothed police officers outside Parliament buildings on Wednesday afternoon.
His arrest came a day after he threatened to forcefully remove foreign traders from their shops in Nairobi.
“If you assess our markets, Ugandans and Tanzanians have taken over our businesses… Now we are saying enough is enough,” said Jaguar when he visited traders along Kirinyaga Road.
He gave Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i 24 hours to deport all foreign nationals doing business in his constituency, failure to which he would mobilize youth to flush them out by force.
“If a 24-hour ultimatum is not enough for them to be deported, we will remove them and we’ll beat them up and we will not fear anyone,” said Jaguar in the remarks now considered ‘xenophobic.’
Magistrate Sinkyani will issue a ruling on his bail application on Wednesday.
