Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria Slams President Uhuru over Deal with Museveni

Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has slammed President Kenyatta following his recent trade talks with his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni.

Speaking at Nyanturago Catholic Church in Mosamaro Masaba, Nyamira County, Kuria says the deals struck between the two countries will undermine Kenyan farmers.

The vocal MP was referring to an agreement between Kenyatta and Museveni, which will see Kenya import more sugar, chicken, and eggs from Uganda.

“Kenya got a very bad trade deal from Uganda bilateral negotiations. Our farmers were left dead,” says Kuria in a Facebook post.

Kuria says that local farmers will continue to suffer in full glare of the government and has urged Parliament to re-assess the East African Protocol with a view of reversing the agreements.

Kenyans took to social media to express their disappointment with President Kenyatta and government officials for settling for a raw deal.

Online users said Kenya was shortchanged in the trade talks as Uganda stands to benefit more.

Nyawira Gitaka said: “A country that doesn’t take care of its farmers is one that’s slowly dying! Every Kenyan should be worried. When the farmer is threatened your life is at stake!”

“Everybody is out there trying to promote agriculture amongst young people but we are killing the sector every other day. Our Youth don’t get into agriculture unless it is a profitable venture like any other enterprise,” wrote Rodgers Kirwa.

  1. More sugar, chicken and eggs…
    More sugar, chicken and eggs!!!!!
They must be cheaper there than in Kenya.
These loud mouth politicians should be asking why the prices are lower over there. Maybe cost of inputs? Less corruption?, less government interference?
Moses Kuria, you do have a big mouth lately spewing a lot of hot air.
