Six More Bodies Retrieved from the Scene as Death Toll for DusitD2 Terror Attack Rises to 21

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has announced that the death toll for Tuesday’s terrorist attack at the dusitD2 complex in Westlands, Nairobi has risen to 21 from the initial 14.

Boinnet says six more bodies have been retrieved from the scene of attack while one police officer, who was involved in the rescue mission, succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.

He says among those confirmed dead are 16 Kenyans, one British national, one United States citizen and three persons of African descent, whose identity are yet to be established.

Boinnet further says 28 persons sustained injuries during the attack and are admitted to various hospitals in Nairobi even though some have been discharged after treatment.

He has also confirmed that two prime suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack.

“Subsequent investigations by the DCI have yielded arrest of two key suspects believed to have facilitated the attack and are in custody assisting Police with the investigations,” he says.

On Wednesday President Kenyatta said the gunmen who staged the attack were eliminated and 700 people were rescued from the complex.

“We will seek out every person that was involved in the funding, planning, and execution of this heinous act. We will pursue relentlessly wherever they will be until they are held to account,” Kenyatta assured the country.
