US Pursues Kenyan Cabinet Secretary, Governor Linked to Akashas Drug Trafficking Web

US authorities have reportedly written to Kenya over ongoing investigations against high ranking Kenyan individuals linked to the Akashas drug trafficking syndicate.

Daily Nation reports that a Cabinet Secretary and a serving Governor are among more than 10 prominent Kenyans on the US Department of Justice’s radar.

10 out of the persons named in the US list are marked as highly culpable in the transnational drug trafficking web and their names are contained in highly secretive documents only accessed by top American and Kenyan enforcement officials.

“They are among the most culpable as far as the drug trafficking charges are concerned,” a judicial source privy to the matter discloses to Daily Nation.

“Local prosecutors are prepared to deal with any request from their US counterparts. The requests from Washington are expected by mid-December (2018),” the source adds.

Other prominent Kenyans in the list include a vocal Rift Valley MP, a prosecutor, two High Court judges, two magistrates and a senior criminal investigations officer.

Also being investigated is a former Minister, a serving MP from Mt Kenya, former MP from North Eastern, prominent Nairobi businessman and a Mombasa-based human rights activist.

Last month, the Akasha brothers; Ibrahim and Baktash pleaded guilty to six counts related to drug trafficking including distribution of heroin and conspiracy to smuggle drugs into the US.

US authorities, pick them up and don’t bring them back. We’ve no more use for them. Drain the swamp!

  2. Those named should…
Those named should immediately resign and deal with their mess as individuals and leave the seveignity of the country intact. Kenya as a country is not on trial and the government should not use any of the country’s time or resources to deal with that kind of mess. It should not look like a country colonizing another. Kenya is not on trial and has nothing to answer as a country. As they get named, they should resign immediately until all is clear. Let Kenya not be slowed down by anxiety for seven years again like was previously done by ICC (International Colonial Court). Those people are individuals, they are not Kenya. God give Kenya leaders not politicians. God help Kenya!!!

This may require a double-tap strike on the corruption and drug cartels to induce shock and awe; so that their responses will not frustrate the efforts by DPP, prosecutors and DCI. Picking one at a time may elicit a lot of frustration from many quarters, including political class, state agencies, judicial processes and sympathizers.

Remember the president of Kenya witnessing the burning of drugs which were being shipped to Kenya without investigation to determine who the owners were? Shame on him, he is among the people in the list and defending them.
