Kenyan Athletes Forced to Spend Night on the Floor at Lagos International Airport in Nigeria

Kenyan athletes were forced to spend the night on the floor at Lagos International Airport in Nigeria on Monday.

The runners traveled to the West African country for the African Senior Athletics Championships. After landing at Lagos International Airport at 2pm, the athletes could not get a connecting flight to Asaba, the hosting venue forcing them to spend the night on the floor.

Other teams including Uganda, Morocco and Ivory Coast also got stuck at Lagos after the organizers of the 2018 event got overwhelmed by the arriving visitors.

Although the organizers are to blame for the incident, social media users have questioned why Kenyan authorities traveling with the team could not make arrangements for accommodation in Lagos.

The delegation of 80 Kenyan athletes could still not get a flight on Tuesday morning, with Kenya officials raising concern over the inconvenience.

“Everybody is tired now. We are still waiting for the flight,” Kenya’s head coach Stephen Mwaniki told Daily Nation.

The competition kicks off on Wednesday at 9am with the decathlon’s 100 metres race.

Corrupt Kenyans met their match, the best treatment.Or what else did they expect from Nigerians?Conglanturations to the Nigerian CONMAN/”KIRUBI” who “ATE” the accommodation funds.

Disaster.I wish team Kenya well, but if the dont perform due to lack of rest, Iwont blame them. Its bad enough to happen to even junior competitions, but to happen to the creame de la creame of Kenya, its unfathomable. How could these world beaters sleep on the floor in the airport?Yes organizers are to blame.Must have been poor planning. If I believed in JUJU, I would say that its at play,to weaken the competition so that Naija scoop more medals. But on aserious not,This should be a”teachable” moment for africans.Especially for those Mpigs that flew to Russia on wananchi’s penny. They said that they were going to learn how its done/organizing of this scale. Well when we do it, we dont want to see any goof up like this one in Naija capital. They better not forget what they learned.Since we dont know when we can stage such a grand sporting event, let the Mpigs write a paper on what they learned and have wananchi/their sponsors read, and evaluate.
