Ngiritas: How Senior State Detective Fixed Us in NYS Scam

Members of the Ngirita family implicated in the Sh9 billion scandal at the National Youth Service (NYS) now claim that they were fixed by an officer investigating the case after a business deal went soar.

Four members of the family namely; Jeremiah Ngichini Ngirita, Ann Wambere Ngirita, Phylis Njeri and their mother Lucy Ngirita, were charged with defrauding the youth agency alongside over 30 other suspects two weeks ago.

All the suspects, including Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Lillian Omollo and NYS Director-General Richard Ndubai were denied bail and will remain in prison remand until their trial is concluded.

In a sworn affidavit dated June 7th, Jeremiah Ngichini Ngirita claims that chief investigating officer Mike Julius Kingoo Muia framed members of his family in the scam to settle personal differences after they cut business ties with him.

Ngichini says his company, Jerricathy Enterprises was in a business partnership with Muia since 2014, but their relationship turned hostile after he ended his trade engagement with the official.

“I together with Mike Julius Kingoo Muia have been carrying out business of supplying hardware and renovating facilities at the National Youth Service in Gilgil.”

“After our business and relationship went soar, Mike Julius Kingoo Muia vowed to use his position to fight our family,” he states in the affidavit.

The businessman further says that Muia tried on number of occasions to revive their partnership, but he was no longer interested in doing business with him. He cites one meeting with Muia held at a club located along Lang’ata road in Nairobi, where the officer met him and his sisters.

“At the meeting, he suggested that we should proceed to his residence to take refreshments which we declined,” Ngichini said.

“He then told us that he would take the statement of Ms Wambere Ngirita at his residence alone as they enjoy “Black Label Whisky which we declined.”

Ngichini also claims that Muia asked for sexual favours from his sister, Wambere as she recorded her statement on the scandal on May 28th.

“Muia assigned himself to write the statement of Ms Wambere and the said taking of statement lasted from 9am to 3pm where they constantly disagreed as a result of his sexual advances to her.”

“The cause of all the allegations against me and my family is due to the business disagreements between Mike Julius Kingoo Muia and ourselves. All the said allegations are totally false and malicious.”

Ann Ngirita is said to have admitted to receiving Sh59 million from NYS without supplying anything, while her mother was paid Sh5.4 million for reportedly supplying canned beans.
