Two Kenyan-Americans Charged in Connection with the Murder of a 25-Year-Old Man in Cobb County, Georgia

Two Kenyan-Americans are among five suspects charged in connection with the shooting of a 25-year-old father of three in Cobb County, Georgia two weeks ago.

18-year-old Maria Mungai of Acworth, GA and Charlton Kariuki of Smyrna, GA have been charged in the March 23rd shooting of Daniel Perez, 25, while he was seated in the passenger set of a pickup truck at the Shops at Blue Springs. Perez died four days later in the hospital.

According to the arrest warrants, Kariuki is accused of buying the murder weapon, a .38-caliber handgun and then selling it to the shooting suspect, a 15-year-old who was not named for being a juvenile. Kariuki also allegedly drove the other suspects to the scene of the crime.

Maria is charged with helping the suspects escape and hide after the shooting.

The suspects are being held without bail, according to Cobb county jail records.

That’s right @ Guest1. Even if witnessed by 30 people, they are still innocent till proven guilty.Just alegal process.Ofcouse having many witnesses is not the same as having no witness or concrete evidence…
Good number of people have been imprisoned only to be found innocent later. The burden of proof is always on the prosecuting side, and sometimes the evidence is not too conclusive so you find an innocent person jailed…

They won’t have to worry about the felony charges on their records. They’ll be freed in thirty years if they are lucky.

I don’t understand why people take these types of risks for a few hundred dollars.

      My father used to say
      What’s the risk
      what’s the reward.

The risk is a felony or life in jail or time in jail.
The reward a few hundred dollars.

Just not worth it. Could you even imagine prison 24 hours a day 365 days a year for 30 years?

This is what keeps people from committing crimes.

    • I know Maria pretty well…
I know Maria pretty well since she completed high school she has slowly been turning into someone else, someone told her its just a matter of time before life catches up with her and seems that person was right. Kwani what’s happening with young people in ATL?? So often it’s not good news. Young adults in Ga, even if you are citizen know when you get caught by authority they will term you with you as ‘kenyan” so better stay with your people.

Kenyans in Atlanta for the most part are lost cases.I would never live in Georgia however cheap houses are etc…………………….

One comes off as silly when they generalize like this. If most of the Kenyans you know in Georgia are lost cases, then it speaks more about you and the company you keep than anything else.

      • H ahah I touched a nerve…
H ahah I touched a nerve didn’t I . I do not keep any company there , they call me for harambees etc usaidizi kila siku – my eons ago schoolmates and Estatemates ,… I do not have to hang around anyone to know this …so if I touched a nerve, its not me , its you who is offended! yes 50% of you down there in the south are a lost case I have reiterated …….there…………….

    • You all are so judgemental…
You all are so judgemental. Y’all fail to realize that people do bad things everywhere. Stop blaming Atlanta when people get robbed and killed in Nairobi & every where else every single day. It’s just sad that this is what’s getting promoted. Guns are being distributed in a crazy manner. You see young children going to schools with them. It’s sad. Just pray and keep teaching young people to avoid messing with a gun if they don’t plan on using it. Stop blaming cities and start blaming the devil. He’s using some of our people and we all need deliverance. God bless.

no word for the bereaved family. May they come into terms as we continue to argue on punishment of 30 years while a human being so young life has been wasted i hope they will be hanged and fast

  5. If you have not child, you…
If you have not child, you can go ahead and curse these children. No parent would love to see this but it happens. For those whose children have stayed out of trouble, it dies not mean they are the best parents. It is just through the grace of God. Incidentally, some of these kids come from families of very hardworking parents. Not that they lacked anything. I conclude by saying, ” shetani ashindwe!” We are claiming our children back.

I have not often read such thoughtful and respectful comments on a murder case. You must all be Kenyan.

Mwihiti na means no utamuri. Such profound wisdom. You have little control over what path your children take. You can only do play part. It has happened to me too.
