Central Organization of Trade Union (Cotu) secretary-general Francis Atwoli has apologized to the Luhya people for installing Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi as the community’s spokesman.
Speaking during the burial of activist Ken Wafula in Kakamega on Friday, Atwoli said Mudavadi is no longer the community’s spokesman, saying he’s a coward for skipping the swearing-in of National Super Alliance (Nasa) chief Raila Odinga.
“I want to register my disappointment and displeasure with Mudavadi. At no time will I ever support him,” Atwoli said, adding that he abandoned Raila in the hour of need.
Atwoli further said the community will reconvene to identify a leader who will contest for Presidency in the 2022 elections.
“A person who aspires to be president should not be afraid of anything. We expected him to rally behind Odinga but he chickened out,” he said.
“If Mudavadi knew that he was going to skip the event, he should have said so early instead of going into hiding on Tuesday.”
“We should no longer be misused or used as voting machines,” the trade unionist said.
Mudavadi had been installed as the community’s spokesperson by Elders led by Atwoli ahead of last year’s general elections.
