Kenya’s giant telecommunication firm Safaricom has notified its MPesa mobile money transfer service customers that it will switch off the service for four hours on Sunday.
A statement from Safaricom Chief Executive Officer Bob Collymore said that he service will be disrupted from 12:30am to 4:30am on Sunday.
The outage will allow the company carry out a system upgrade of the M-Pesa platform to ensure efficient services.
“This upgrade has been scheduled with due consideration of our customers comfort to result into the least inconvenience. We expect all services to be restored and M-Pesa to be fully functional following the process,” read Safaricom’s statement.
Safaricom has been conducting systematic upgrades on the most used mobile money platform in the country, in the hopes it will help increase functionality.
