Woman Arrested After Four Youth are Conned Sh1.4 Million Using Fake Prison College Letters

Police in Kiambu are holding a 61-year-old woman over alleged involvement in the issuance of fake Kenya Prison Service (KPS) college admission letters.

The woman is believed to be part of a syndicate that conned four people of Sh1.4 million, with the promise of issuing them direct admission letters to the college.

The victims identified as Nancy Nyawira, Moses Gitau, John Kebaso and Mercy Wambui sent a combined Sh1.4 million to one Benson Ng’ang’a, who posed as an officer working at the Kenya Prison headquarters.

Nyawira and Kebaso were conned Sh300,000 and Sh400,000 respectively while Gitau and Wambui sent 350,000 each to Ng’ang’a.

Ng’ang’a, who has since gone into hiding, reportedly approached the four victims and promised to secure their admission to Kenya Prison Service (KPS) training college. The four later discovered that the admission letters given to them were fake, prompting them to report the matter to police.

Detectives arrested the elderly woman, who is currently assisting with investigations.

KPS is currently conducting a recruitment exercise across the country, with candidates being required to have a minimum grade of D+ and above in KCSE, be physically and mentally fit, be between 18 to 28 years of age, and have no criminal record.

Youths with Shs 300K seeking warden jobs with Kenya Prison Services. Parents and youth, let us wake up. Education is about what we can do, not where we can get employed. Let’s borrow something from the Ethiopians, their focus is starting small businesses, not being employed.
