A suspect who escaped from police custody in Kiambaa, Kiambu County five months ago has been rearrested.
John Muturi Keneya, alias Francis Limo Ngugi, had been arrested for murder, rape and robbery with violence and was remanded at Karuri Police Station pending a mental assessment ordered by a Kiambu court.
Muturi sneaked out of the police cells under mysterious circumstances on the evening of June 22nd as others were being served dinner.
The 36-year-old suspect was smoked out of his hideout in Namanga town on Friday after being on the run for five months.
His arrest came after detectives received information on his whereabouts through the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) anonymous tip line.
Police say Muturi, who is the main suspect in the murder of his wife, was doing odd jobs in the border town to make a living. His wife died after being stabbed in the chest in August last year.
The suspect is in police custody awaiting arraignment next week.
