Martha Karua: President Uhuru’s Government Has Performed Badly

NARC-Kenya leader Martha Karua says President Kenyatta’s administration has performed terribly, especially on the fight against graft.

Karua, who spoke to Sunday Nation, expressed her reservations about the multi-billion-shilling projects undertaken by the Jubilee government.

While acknowledging that the government has done well on road infrastructure, she said the high cost of the highways implies the level of corruption being perpetuated.

“On infrastructure, we can see it being developed like the [Nairobi] expressway, and it is very beautiful and reminds me of other countries. It is a plus, but a negative as well, at what cost? Is that the real cost, or is there a hidden cost?” Karua posed.

“The cost of infrastructure in the country has gone up; I would say a thousandfold. Our infrastructure is more expensive than those in the developed world. It tells you of the level of corruption involved.”

She went on to mention other corruption scandals that have put Kenyatta’s commitment to fighting graft in question, including the ‘COVID-19 billionaires’ scam.

“One very sticky issue the president cannot escape from is the `COVID billionaires’. It is scandalous, during a pandemic and nobody is acting on it. This actually encourages more and more of such scandals,” said Karua.

Karua, who has declared interest in the Kirinyaga governor seat in the next year’s election, further stated that Kenyatta’s government has failed to adhere to human rights citing the recent police-linked abductions reported in the country.

“You cannot say you adhere to human rights and the most outstanding issue to human rights is the abductions. Even though the police deny it they are the ones, if they are not then they have the business of telling us who is. If they cannot tell us, we will be justified to conclude it is them.”

She is a mature, objective and impartial critic. Even a five year old can see the truth from lies. If only people would vote for such leaders the sky would be the limit. But we are going to see worse in the future because of the electorate who vote , not on pertinent issues but along tribal lines and handouts.

  3. Revisit the 2010…
Revisit the 2010 constitution, the CSs were to be appointed from career professionals so that they could concentrate with service delivery. And now, the CSs have become corrupt and politicians. We still have to blame it on leadership, UK should ask some of his CSs to step down so that they can focus on politics. in line with the 2010 constitution. What’s the role of CAS?

She is damn right, yes! I wish that Kenyans were to look at people like Karua as their next president. So untainted with corruption scams that have ruined hopes of such a promising young country..

  5. The Kikuyu move with times…
The Kikuyu move with times. After Kenneth Matiba, it was Mwai Kibaki. Then Uhuru Kenyatta. I think that she is bitter, that the Kikuyu Nation is still not looking at her, as the next leader of the Kikuyu. My take? Leadership is earned, not fought for.
