Kenya Airports Authority to Auction 73 Junk Planes for as Low as Sh5,000

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has announced a public auction of 73 junk aircraft.

In a notice, the authority said the planes are not airworthy, adding that they are breaching the safety and efficiency of air operations.

The aircraft owned by various aviation companies will be sold between November 17th and 22nd at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Wilson Airport, Lokichogio, and Moi International Airport in Mombasa.

KAA said the owners of the airplanes were notified to clear outstanding bills and reposition them but failed to do so.

Some of the junk aircraft facing the auctioneers’ hammer are owned by Somali Airforce, Jetlink, Fly 540, Jubba Airways, Skyward, Astral Aviation, Silverstone, among others.

They include a Somali Airforce plane registration 8204 (Sh73,00), Somali Air force 3C-ZZA (Sh73,000), Aerospace Consortium 4K-EXJ (Sh814,500), and Jubba Airways 5Y-BXZ (Sh406,800).

Others are Jetlink 5Y-JLA (Sh187,00), Skyward 5Y-SIB (Sh62,600), Jetlink (Sh69,175), Skyways 5Y-BMB (Sh38,250), Kate Flight at Sh52,007, 748 Air Services 9L-LFN at Sh19,500, and Planes for Africa S2-ADL at Sh5,000.

Interested buyers have been asked to view the items between November 4th and 16th and verify their details as the items are being offered for sale on an “as-is-where-is” basis.
