The government has extended the nationwide curfew that is currently in force to combat the spread of COVID-19.
Through a gazette notice dated April 12th, 2021, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i said the curfew will run until May 29th.
In the five disease-infected counties of Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado, Machakos, and Nakuru, the curfew runs from 8 pm to 4 am and 10 pm to 4 am in the rest of the country.
“There shall be no public gatherings, processions or movement either alone or as a group during the period of the curfew except as shall be permitted, in writing, by a police officer in charge of the police in a county or a police officer in charge of the police in a division/sub-county,” the gazette notice reads in part.
The gazette notice also listed 26 essential service providers who are exempted from the orders including medical professionals and health workers; security officers; licensed pharmaceuticals companies, pharmacies, and drug stores; broadcasters and media houses; Kenya Revenue Authority officials, and power production and distribution companies.
Others are lawyers and children protection service providers; food and farm produce processors, distributors, dealers, wholesalers, and transporters; supermarkets, minimarkets, and hypermarkets; banks, financial institutions, and payment service providers, and fire brigade and emergency response services.
