ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi has dispelled claims that he is secretly being fronted as President Kenyatta’s preferred successor in 2022.
Mudavadi clarified that his presidential bid is not pegged on any endorsement, adding that he will seek to be elected as the country’s next president based on his manifesto.
“I won’t just sit and wait to be endorsed for the presidency. The password to the country’s presidency in the vote that will be cast by a citizen during elections,” Mudavadi said during a burial in Vihiga County on Friday.
He urged the people of Western Kenya to register as voters in large numbers to make his presidential quest a reality.
“Let us not wait for someone to hand us that position. Register as voters because all we want is numbers. I’m not waiting to be handed leadership,” added Mudavadi.
He called for proper management of the transition after the expiry of President Kenyatta’s term in 2022, warning that the process could prove disastrous for the country if not handled appropriately.
“Transition from one president is a dangerous period for nations the world over. In Kenya, we have had smooth and peaceful transitions from Kenyatta to Moi to Kibaki to Uhuru. We will soon be in transition and may it remain peaceful,” Mudavadi noted.
Mudavadi said he will focus on reviving the economy, creating jobs, and uniting the country if elected in 2022.
