Kenya has confirmed 30 additional cases of Covid-19, the highest number of infections recorded in a single day since the country registered its first case on March 13th.
The 30 new cases were detected from 883 samples examined in the last 24 hours and raise the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country to 465.
Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Rashid Aman in a media briefing on Sunday, May 3rd, said the cases are spread out across four counties—Nairobi, Mombasa, Bungoma and Kitui.
19 of the new cases are from Mombasa, 8 from Nairobi, 2 from Bungoma, and 1 from Kitui. Out of the 30 patients, 23 are male and seven are female—all aged between 4 and 64 years.
At the same time, 15 more patients were discharged from the hospital after recovering from the infection while two lost their lives in Mombasa.
These raise the total number of Covid-19 recoveries in Kenya to 165 while the death toll stands at 24.
“We are appealing to Kenyans in targeted areas such as Kawangware to come forward to be tested if we want to flatten the curve,” said Dr. Aman.
