Murder Suspect Joseph "Jowie" Irungu Finally Leaves Prison After 533 Days

After spending the past 533 days behind bars, murder suspect Joseph ‘Jowie’ Irungu has finally been released.

Irungu, who is the prime suspect in the murder of 28-year-old business lady Monica Kimani, was freed on Wednesday afternoon from Kamiti Maximum Security Prison after he posted Sh2 million cash bail.

The accused posted the amount nearly a month after High Court Justice James Wakiaga granted him bail. Prior to this, Irungu had seen his application for bail rejected twice for various reasons among them, lack of a permanent address.

He has been in custody since September 2018 when he was arrested in connection with the killing of Ms. Kimani.

Irungu, a former security consultant, is charged with the murder of Ms. Kimani alongside his former girlfriend, journalist Jacque Maribe. Maribe was released on Sh2 million cash bail in October 2018.

Monica was found brutally killed in her rented apartment at Lamura Gardens in Nairobi’s Kilimani area in September 2018. Her body had been dumped in a bathtub with hands and legs tied, and throat slit.

She had just returned from Juba, South Sudan, where she was reportedly running a family business.

Thought murder suspects are held behind bars without bail….
Oh wait…that’s the white man’s ways

Murderers have become heroes in Kenya eg,Obado, Babu Owino, Nyakundi, some lawyers and judges

  3. If anyone is charged with…
If anyone is charged with murder they should remain in jail until the case is heard. Releasing murder suspects on bail is a very bad practice. These cases are never finalised. It seems that as long as you can come up with the bail money you have nothing to worry about in Kenya. Justice is for sale, Kenyan style.
