Seven Suspects Arrested for Impersonating Senior Gov't Official, Socialites

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested seven suspects for allegedly impersonating a senior government official and socialites.

The suspects are accused of defrauding members of the public while masquerading as socialites as well as a top government official.

The seven are identified as Joseph Waswa, Duncan Muchai, Isaac Wanyonyi, William Simiyu, David Luganya, Gilbert Kirunja, and Antony Wafula.

They were apprehended on Saturday following an operation by DCI officers.

“Seven fraudsters who have been imitating a very senior govt officer and socialites to obtain money by false pretenses were arrested today after an intense operation,” says the DCI.

Police are holding four vehicles including a Toyota Land Cruiser V8, Toyota Mark X, and Toyota Axio that the suspects were reportedly using to run their activities.

The DCI says the suspects were mostly targeting members of the Indian community in their criminal operations.

The seven will be arraigned in court on Monday to face charges of obtaining money by false pretense among other counts.
