Rosemary Odinga Appears in Public for the First Time Since Being Flown to South Africa for Specialized Treatment

Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s daughter Rosemary appeared in public for the first time since being flown to South Africa for specialized treatment in February, 2017.

Rosemary was diagnosed with a non-cancerous brain tumor commonly referred to as Meningioma. She had initially been admitted at Nairobi Hospital.

The condition can cause blindness and affect one’s ability to move as it develops in the brain. She was underwent successful treatment and flew back to the country in May last year.

Since then Ms Odinga has maintained a low profile and has never been spotted in public. On Saturday, the entrepreneur who domesticates snails for sale as food showed up for her 41st birthday party held at Deeps EA Horse Riding School in Kitusuru, Nairobi.

In attendance at the invite-only celebration was her father, mother Ida, brother Junior, and sister Winnie.

Also present were Dagoretti South Member of Parliament Simba Arati, Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, and former Alego Usonga MP Sammy Weya, among others.

Rosemary, an advocate for alternative agriculture, was set to run for Kibera parliamentary seat in last year’s general elections but withdrew citing health issues. The seat was won by incumbent Ken Okoth of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
