Ailing Kenyan billionaire businessman Chris Kirubi is among persons who lost their state positions after Friday’s shake up in government by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kirubi has been serving as a Non-Executive Chairman of the Brand Kenya Board, an institution tasked with marketing Kenya as a key investment and tourist destination abroad.
In the reshuffle announced by acting State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena, former Nation Media Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Linus Gitahi will take over the post from Kirubi.
It remains unclear why the President dropped the business mogul from the position. Kirubi has been battling an undisclosed illness and recently returned to the country after spending about six months at a hospital in the United States.
Images of the tycoon, which surfaced online in recent times, showed a frail-looking Kirubi, different from the ever known jovial man.
Former head of Public Service Francis Muthaura was also dropped as the the Chairman of the LAPSSET Corridor Development Authority and will be replaced by Titus Ibui. Muthaura was recently appointed as the Chairman of Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Board.
