Leaders drawn from the Mt Kenya region have unanimously endorsed Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid and refuted claims that there are plans to scuttle his ambition to succeed President Kenyatta.
The leaders including Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria, MPs Kimani Ichungwa (Kikuyu), Sabina Chege (Muranga), Dindi Nyoro (Kiharu), Duati Ngugi (Gatanga), George Kariuki (Ndia), Ruth Mwaniki (Kigumo) and Mary Waithera (Maragwa) said that they are solidly behind Ruto and that their support for him is non-negotiable.
Others leaders included Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, Senator Charles Kibiru and Women Representative Purity Ngirici.
While speaking during a prize giving ceremony at Murang’a High School on Friday which was graced by Ruto, the politicians termed claims that there were plans by Mt Kenya leaders to sabotage Ruto’s ambitions as untrue. “We want to make it clear here, that we are in Jubilee to stay. Our candidate as people of Mt Kenya come 2022 is William Ruto. That’s all and we don’t mince our words,” said Ms Mwaniki.
“Those who are telling us that we don’t owe anything the Deputy President are daydreaming. We owe you and we will pay back. We have debt to pay as people of Central,” she added.
MP Waithera assured Ruto that the region will rally behind him come 2022.
“Your Excellency, don’t be misled by some people with a hidden agenda that the people of Central Kenya will not support you. We will be with you and you will see when the time comes,” said Ms Waithera.
Governor Wa Iria dismissed those who have been condemning talks on President Kenyatta’s succession, noting that its part of development agenda.
“No one can stop us from talking about succession politics because it’s part of development. Even when I was in Kenya Breweries’ Company, we used to talk about who would be the next CEO when another was about to retire,” said Mr Iria.
“This is why there is nothing wrong when we continue saying Mr Ruto will be the next country’s CEO when President Uhuru Kenyatta’s term comes to an end in 2022,” added the Governor.
“As leaders of Central Kenya, we are all set and come 2022 we will be at the frontline in campaigning for you (Ruto) because of your scorecard,” added Mr Iria.
Ichungwa defended Ruto’s countrywide tour stating: “This Government was re-elected by Kenyans because of its development track record. Development cant be achieved when the country’ top leaders spent their entire time in offices. They must be at the grassroots’ to get the peoples priorities right.”
“Your Excellency, you must continue to tour all parts of our country to help initiate development projects. Just ignore those criticizing your tours because they have lost touch with the reality,” said Ichungwa.
Little known fact. Uhuru was…
Little known fact. Uhuru was only guaranteed the Central vote after Raila become the opposition flag bearer. Many are disgusted not by the insane corruption but by Uhuru’s mind numbing mediocrity and his BS. In Kiambu the most important issue was getting rid of Kabogo. The opposition is too stupid to realise most Kenyans just want a good leader. Ruto would be a fool to expect an easy win but sadly the so called opposition are really a bunch of losers with nothing to offer. Just like Raila wanangoja tu kunyonya
Kenya we are becoming too…
Kenya we are becoming too much, just concluded election and now talking of 2022? We need developments not politics. My opinion too is that Kale and Kikuys should be barred from contesting to give chance other communities to be presidents too
