United States Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec has insisted that dialogue between President Kenyatta and opposition chief Raila Odinga is key in uniting Kenyans following the disputed presidential election that left the country divided almost into two.
Speaking when he held talks with Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka on Thursday, the diplomatic urged leaders to pursue unity as opposed to personal interests.
He further said there is need to address the issues arising from the just concluded presidential poll.
“Dialogue is very important for the progress of the country; the leaders need to come together for the sake of the future of this country,” he said.
On his part, Speaker Lusaka said any discussions between National Super Alliance (NASA) and Jubilee should be premised on constitutional provisions.
“As a country we need to be united and move forward but we are also a country that respects the rule of law and any talk that should happen within the framework of our constitution and the law. It is important to note that elections are behind us and we have a President in place and he has set his agenda,” said Lusaka.
Godec’s calls comes even as the opposition outfit said its leaders will be sworn in before the end of January.
“The swearing in of Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka is on course and the exact details about the preparations will be unveiled soon,” said people’s assembly steering committee chair David Ndii in a presser on Thursday.

Mr. Godec, Kenyans are all represented in parliament. There is not a single Kenyan that is not represented in parliament. If you have to get involved in Kenyan affairs, go through parliament and clearly state which part of the country you are representing as you air your views. I believe according to Kenyan laws, you are a guest. Kenya has a President and a constitution. Raila is also represented in his home town. He needs to go through his representative to air his views through parliament. It is lack of respect for our constitution and the country for Raila to air his views and for you Mr Godec to support him in ignoring his local representative who has been duly elected to represent Kenyans in his region.
