Another Road Accident Near Salgaa Blackspot Claims 35 Lives

35 people have been confirmed dead after a passenger bus headed to Nairobi collided head on with an oncoming truck at Migaa area near Salgaa blackspot along the busy Nakuru-Eldoret highway on New Year eve.

Eighteen other people escaped death, but sustained serious injuries in the accident which happened at around 3.30am on Sunday.

Rift Valley Traffic Enforcement Officer Zero Arome said the bus, which was ferrying passengers from Busia was being driven on the wrong lane before it collided with the loaded lorry.

“We have 30 dead and two are from the truck,” he said, “All the bodies have been removed from the wreckage and injured people taken to hospital.”

The Nairobi-bound bus belongs to Matunda sacco, which mainly operates from Kitale, Busia, Kakamega and other Western Kenya destinations to Nairobi.

Among those who died on the spot include the driver of the truck and his loader, while 28 other bodies were retrieved from the ill-fated bus. Four others died while receiving treatment in hospital, among them three children aged two months, two years and 10 years and one adult aged 35 years.

So sad. NTSA has just suspended all psv travel between 7pm and 6am. Almost all these accidents seem to be happening during the night. With a hevey haert though, happy and drammer free this comming year, all of you good people.

Don’t expect any drop in fatal accidents with CORRUPTION being occupation and cash crop No.1 in Kenya .Worse still is that ordinary Kenyans have being tuned by their gods to believe that corruption can be fought from the changaa arresting policeman or traffic officer.NO.NEVER.Corruption will only be tamed when we start fighting it from the TOP-PRESIDENT,OPPOSITION LEADER,LEGISLATURE,JUDICIARY/PROSECUTORS etc.Start with EUROBOND,Goldenburg,Anglolishing,Maize,Petrol,TWO RIVERS MALL,INSTITUTIONALIZED corruption like paying shs 3b.per year for owning useless political parties,Huge salaries for nothing ETC.ONLY A BLOODY REVOLUTION TOWARDS THE ELITE THUGS WILL SAVE KENYA.

RiP. Its about time the salga blackspot area become a dual highway. This blackspot has been there for more than 30 years.

  5. Time to introduce firing…
Time to introduce firing squads. If a driver survives an accident for which he is solely responsible of, should face the bullet. Driving schools should be compulsory for those operating commercial vehicles. Those giving driving certificates irresponsibly should be dealt with accordingly. Finally, night travels should be limited, vehicles inspected for proper lighting etc. This road carnage must stop.

Barring an”act of God or nature”, all these road accidents could be avoided or totally reduced.
First-If the car is not road worthy=Human error
Second- If the driver is unqualified= Human error
Third – If the driver is not obeying traffic rules=Human error
      Forth-Bad roads=HUman error
All the aforementioned issues/problems can be solved with a willing government, and its people.
As you can see, there isnt much in the way of “an act of God” problems.Like thunder striking the driver…
Till we start using self driving vehicles, firing squads should hold the fort…I agree with you Mugikuyu

  6. Uhuru, tafadhali zungumza na…
Uhuru, tafadhali zungumza na Mwai Kibaki akusaidie kutawala nchi. Umeshindwa kabisa.

It beats every reason how 50 Kenyans board a bus, discover it is faulty, driven by a mad driver, continue pleeding with him not to overspeed. At the police roadblock they don’t inform police about the state of the vehicle and that the driver is mad. They continue with the journey praying hard that God will see them through all this. A few moments later, most of them are reduced to meat. The few who survive blame corruption, police, government, jubilee and the devil just like the @imaras of this site. This only happen in Kenya.

It’s not rocket science to observe & learn what other countries have done over the years to avoid such deadly carnage on the roads. But, alas, we have too much incompetence in leadership to steer country in right direction

@Njai, Ndugu yetu Desmond Tutu aliyekuwa askofu wa kanisa la Kianglikana Afrika ya Kusini alisema hivi. “…If you are silent in situations of injustice, you have taken the side of the oppressor.”

Watu wengi wamepoteza maisha yao barabarani za Kenya ovyo kama inzi kwa sababu polisi hawafanyi kazi yao kama inavyostahili na unataka ninyamaze kama kila kitu ni shwari! Ndugu yangu, siwezi!

  11. @imara, yafaa pia tuchukue…
@imara, yafaa pia tuchukue jukumu kujilinda. We cannot leave everything to serikali. When this bus was stopped by the police why didn’t anybody complain about the driver? Or according to you, are the police supposed to follow these psvs, stop and inspect them everywhere? I’ve always seen stickers in matatus announcing if the vehicle is driven carelessly, ”ZUSHA, NI HAKI YAKI”. If we can do that alone, hizi ajari zitapungua by more than half.Wewe wacha siasa bwana.

  12. Learn to be your own…
Learn to be your own advocate. If you board a bus and find a nonchalant driver, step out and find another means of transportation. Yes, you may lose money in the process. But, what’s more important money or your life? You can blame accidents on the government and everyone else. However, you need to do what’s right for you. Most importantly, surrender your life to God through Jesus Christ so that should anything happen you will have eternal life in heaven not hell.

Those who visits abroad can support me that carelessness, ignorance, unconditional vehicles, overworking, greed of money, pressure frm employer and bad roads are the main cause of accidents in Kenya. Put corruption aside please.
