Machakos County has adopted new technology that tarmacs a road in record 10 minutes per kilometre as opposed to the traditional average of one hour for the same distance.
Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua on Thursday launched the technology that is being used to construct a new 20-kilometre Kivandini-Masinga road. Speaking at the site, Mutua said the process is an example of how his Maendeleo Chap Chap party wants to prove that it is possible to fasten development through efficiency.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader said the technology is borrowed from construction practice from developed countries such as the United States, Dubai, China and Australia.
“There are no external contractors employed on the project and all the work is being done by county workers and equipment,” Mutua said.
The process allows different machines to operate in sync to ensure seamless and well planned arrangement that delivers a bitumen standard road in a matter of minutes.
“In Kenya, we take forever to complete projects adding to the cost, more than in many other countries, mainly due to poor project planning, logistics and laxity,” Mutua said.
The technology is widely used in China, which enables it to construct several kilometres of road in a matter of hours.
“We have to shift gears and catch up with the rest of the world,” Mutua said.
“When complete, the road will link Mutwamwaki, Kalundu, Musingini, Mikimari, Masinga and Kivuthi markets to Masinga town on tarmac,” he said.

@Guest1, we are not in USA…
@Guest1, we are not in USA. Don’t be so negative. Appreciate we have a Governor who is trying to change the laxity tradition of getting things done whenever they get done. This governor is doing something we are not used to – getting things done. Kama unataka kubakia nyuma, wee baki huko. Wacha maendeleo chapu chapu iendelee. Mbele hiko sawa ==>2022

Alfred a fraudster / full of theatrics. This bastard is just pouring oil on black soil. Mwakilishi you have also stooped too low to write such non-sense. Daily light robbery
Wacha hiyo upuuzi yako…
Wacha hiyo upuuzi yako Ukabila.Have you ever seen the pathetic state of the cheap roads build by jambazi Mutua some two years ago? They are worse-POTHHOLES,VALLEYS etc than he met them but Kenyans are still paying for them.I wonder why we have the anti-corruption body or the office of DPP because Mutua ought to locked at the cells in Indian Ocean and keys thrown to the same ocean.
As long as the quality is …
As long as the quality is not compromised it sounds like a good idea

This is the kind of news we want to hear, thank you Mwakilishi. You are finally getting it. Raila kila siku shrinks the brain. Seeing our people being put to work elevates our spirit, keep it up.
10 minutes per kilometer? …
10 minutes per kilometer? That does not sound real. It has to be done at very high speed. Most likely somebody made a mistake when typing

Saw it on Facebook live as they put the asphalt down. It really was quick. If quality holds, then Mutua has this off the charts and deserves the gold medal. True @mugi; it is better this kind of news than vitisho tisho and useless politicking Kila siku.

It would be better if Mkenya…
It would be better if Mkenya, who lives in Limuru(just 100 km away) travels to Machackos to inspect/witness how jambazi Mutua is pocketing his taxes.I hope you also remember Mutua pocketing shs 400 million for lauching the slogan-NAJIVUNIA KUWA muKEMYA when he was GK spokesman. At that time he approoted all floweres and grass in Nairobi streets and replaced them with cemented quarry chips.KITANZI/RISASI TU IS THE SOLUTION IN KENYA
Efficient but is it…
Efficient but is it effective? Technology could be working in those countries but the devil could be in the details. Due to raw materials, weather and specifications differentials the outcome and quality of the final product might be worlds apart. Let thorough testing be put in place and dry run the process before resources are committed large scale.
The tallk of 1Km in 10 min…
The tallk of 1Km in 10 min is unlealistic Hehehee! Starting from scratch. Wacha hayo! I blve they can do it faster than others but not at that spd. What about heating the tar?
I saw the video on Citizen…
I saw the video on Citizen or one of the channels. 10 minutes though is too fast. They need to do quality work and remember to do touch-ups including shoulders. Those hanging roads that have no shoulders for pulling over even for matatus or the common pedestrians or space for people waiting for matatus is not a good idea. I was very impressed though to see Mutua out there in jeans directing the work and doing the PR stunt

this is techically not possible.
I concur with those saying…
I concur with those saying this is unrealistic. Not even in any of the developed countries do they have such speed, with all their mechanization. This road will end up in Athi River come the next rains.
@Anonymous. I’m with you on…
@Anonymous. I’m with you on this one. Those road construction machines move at very low speed even when they are not constructing the roads. Are they using Road Rollers yenye hutembea kama tortoise? http://web.tradekorea.com/upload_file2/product/518/P00229518/cbe9caa5_6d12e990_4c8a_49b8_beda_cf7510ca0be2.JPG
