Nairobi County Governor-elect Mike Mbuvi Sonko has embarked on a campaign he says will make Nairobi city the ‘Cleanest City in Africa’, even before officially assuming office.
Sonko is expected to be sworn in to office on Wednesday next week, but he has opted to roll the sleeves early to show Nairobians he means business. He has already deployed hundreds of youths under the Sonko Rescue Team to clear off campaign posters and other election-related materials from walls and streets of the city.
Groups of youths have also been spotted clearing up heaps of garbage from the City and its environs.
“OPERATION NG’ARISHA JIJI Today marks the beginning of getting rid of the stench that has plagued our city for a long time,” Sonko posted on Twitter.
Sonko trounced incumbent governor Evans Kidero (ODM), former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth (independent) and former Raila Odinga aide Miguna Miguna (independent) to clinch the Nairobi governor seat in the August 8th general elections on a Jubilee Party ticket.
Way to go Sonko. This…
Way to go Sonko. This clearly shows you how one leader/person can make a change for the better,if given a chance. However, what we need is a culture of cleanliness. As citizens we should be clean conscious .This means after peeling a banana,be mindful of where you put the peels. If we all play our part, Sonko’s work will be easier and we shall all be happy to live in the cleanest city in africa, then eventually in the cleanest city in the world…why not.
Whether this is optics or…
Whether this is optics or not, the action part of it is commendable. Youth being put to work to improve their own environment beats incitements to violent protests any time. Making this a part of our culture as Max puts it should be our long term design.
Way to go Sonko. Hongera…
Way to go Sonko. Hongera sana. Chapa kazi kabisa. Show them show to do the job
Talking of chapa kazi, I…
Talking of chapa kazi, I trust that the practice of “employing”,or rather paying ghost employees in the city council will be a thing of the past.
Pilipili usiokula inakuwasha…
Pilipili usiokula inakuwasha aje. As long as this guy is paying this youth and keeping the city clean all the best. He appears to be another Michuki in the making and Nairobi will once again be the green city in the sun
Is this optical illusion or…
Is this optical illusion or what? I have noticed that those girls cleaning are pretty well fed.I only bring this up to illustrate the point many health conscious observers have made, and that is” the so called third world countries are fast catching up with the west on matters of the waste line”.This trend if true, could pose health problems for our future generations…
A great gesture right before…
A great gesture right before he is sworn in. And Mr.incoming governor can you launch operation build clean public restrooms and better sewer and drainage across NRB?
The marks of a true leader…
The marks of a true leader. A servant leader does not wait for things to happen he makes things to happen. He motivates inspires and leads by example!!! Hongera governor mpya Wa jiji la Nairobi
Maxiley, this guy has got hs…
Maxiley, this guy has got hs work cut up. In reference to your comment re:littering, Nairobi has become one. big gabbage city. Bin collections are a thing of the past so some residents get rid of their waste anyhow they can. Some of them dont even have running water. The infrastructure is so messy, Sonko is familiar with all this, so hope will see some changes. Kidero was a joke. As for the ghost workers, their are genuine retired and in work ones who are not paid their due. The injustce of it all is amind boggling.
