Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has warned President Uhuru Kenyatta not to underestimate independent candidates, while dismissing the six piece voting system.

Kabogo called on the head of state to stop pushing for the election of Jubilee candidates, saying that the electorate should be left to decide their leaders.

Kabogo, who is seeking to defend his seat as an independent candidate, said that he was supporting President Uhuru’s reelection, calling on him to allow candidates to seek for their own votes in the grassroots, instead of relying on his endorsement.

“Kenyans should be left to decide,” Kabogo told a youth meeting in Gatundu South on Friday.

According to the Kiambu county boss, the President can’t afford to ignore independent candidates because they could determine winners.

“If I have 30,000 followers and another independent candidate has 5,000, do you want to tell me they can ignore us?” He asked.

Kabogo was elected as the Chairman of the Kenya Independent Candidates Alliance that has 4,000 members.

He called on Kiambu residents to stop listening to propaganda from his opponents, while stressing that his track record was unmatched.

“Let us not listen to propagandists who are out to tarnish our development record and also lack an agenda,” he said.

Kabogo lost to Waititu in the race for Jubilee ticket in the party’s nomination, but claimed that he was rigged. He ditched Jubilee and will be defending his seat as an independent candidate.
