Jubilee has canceled nominations in 11 counties following confusion and delays in delivery of voting materials on the first day of nominations.

Nominations for all political seats have been cancelled in the following counties: Baringo, Bomet, Elgeyo Marakwet, Embu, Kajiado, Kericho, Nakuru, Nandi, Narok, Trans Nzoia, and Uasin Gishu.

Voting was also partially cancelled in Kiambu, Laikipia, Meru, and West Pokot.

Jubilee Party secretary general Raphael Tuju took responsibility for the chaos in the nomination process, saying new voting dates will be announced soon.

“The new voting dates will be announced as soon as possible and we apologise to all our party members for all inconveniences. I take responsibility for the failure,” Tuju told the press in a media conference.

Nomination was proceeding fully in Murang’a, Nyeri, and Nyandarua.

Tension was high in several parts of counties where Jubilee nominations were set to kick off on Friday morning.

In Kirinyaga, former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru, who is running for the governor seat in the county, called for the nomination process to be cancelled for lack of adequate ballots. “No nominations will continue in Kirinyaga. You can’t bring 300 ballot papers where there are 300,000 registered voters,” protested Waiguru.

In Uasin Gishu, the residents have stormed the MV Patel voting centers demanding for voting materials to be availed for them to cast their votes.

Voting materials were delayed after it was alleged that some voting papers were stolen en-route to Eldoret town.

Earlier on, Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi demanded the cancellation of the primaries stating that there were plans to rig them.

Elsewhere in Nakuru County, the voting materials were yet to arrive even though residents had been queuing since 5 am in the morning at various polling stations.

Nakuru County Jubilee returning Officer Jepta Rono, however, dismissed the claims stating that all ballot papers were distributed to all the polling stations on time.

Earlier on, the county election bosses in Nandi and Bomet postponed the nominations in the counties citing lack of voting materials.
