Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi Set to Marry Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina

Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi is set to tie the knot with Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina after two years of dating.

Wamumbi, a former MCA for Konyo Ward in Nyeri County, proposed to Betty over the weekend at an engagement party attended by Governors Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Susan Kihika (Nakuru), and Nominated Senator Veronicah Maina, among others.

Taking to social media, Betty flaunted her new ring and thanked those who attended the engagement party.

“One day at a time sweet Jesus. He makes all things beautiful in his own time. Thanks my sisters for organizing this wonderful surprise. My dear Eric, you rock!” she wrote.

On his part, Wamumbi shared photos of the event and captioned them, “And out of love, she said yes!”

After the proposal, Wamumbi is set to visit Betty’s home this Saturday where he will officially meet her parents and the clan to table an official proposal to marry her.

Wamumbi said Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will lead a bride price negotiation entourage from Mathira while Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro will play host on behalf of Betty’s team in Murang’a.

“We have now decided to live together as husband and wife and Gachagua will be my chief negotiator when Mathira meets Murang’a for the takeover of her daughter,” Wamumbi told Inooro TV.

The first-time MP said he met Betty during the campaign trail in 2021 and “I discovered that she had everything I wanted in a wife”.

Before her election to Parliament in 2022, Betty served as a director at Athi Water Company. She is a divorcee and has two children from her previous marriage.

Wamumbi lost his first wife Catherine Nyambura in May 2020. Nyambura’s body was found floating at Hohwe dam, a day after she was reported missing.

Wamumbi, who was questioned by detectives in connection with his wife’s death, eulogized her as the best thing that ever happened to him. He said her death left a great emptiness in his life and that of his two sons.

The two are set to make history as the first serving MPs to marry in Kenya’s parliament.
