MP Salasya and Former Sports CS Echesa Clash Publicly at Shianda Market

A public confrontation occurred on Sunday at Shianda market between Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya and former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rachid Echesa.

The incident unfolded as Echesa addressed Shianda market locals on national matters, and recent Western region development projects initiated during President William Ruto’s tour. Salasya's arrival in a vehicle interrupted Echesa's speech, prompting a direct verbal exchange between the two leaders. Salasya confronted Echesa with accusations, while Echesa asserted his standing within the government and demanded respect.

The confrontation drew a mixed reaction from the crowd, with some urging Echesa to continue his address. Subsequently, both politicians took to social media to voice their criticisms. Salasya dismissed Echesa’s political clout in the area, while Echesa stressed the importance of public discourse and accused Salasya of disrupting the event.

Last week, Salasya publicly criticized Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga following his removal from the National Assembly Committee on Regional Integration. The heated exchange came a day after Salasya was reassigned to the Broadcasting and Library Services Committee. Salasya accused Odinga of orchestrating the reshuffle and prioritizing personal interests over public service.

Salasya further alleged that the National Assembly has lost its independence to the executive branch, while vowing to continue advocating for his constituents. He proposed constitutional reforms to eliminate political influence in committee appointments, advocating for merit-based selection. The reshuffling also saw Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro demoted from Chair of the Budget and Appropriations Committee.

Salasya needs to grow up & abstain from drugs usage...Be Sober & handle matters or his grievance with Raila or Executives NOT at Podium public functions.
