US aircraft manufacturer Boeing on Monday announced that families of passengers who perished in the Ethiopian Airlines plane crash will be paid $144,500 each.
Boeing asked families of those killed in the March 10th, 2019 accident to submit claims before December 31st this year, according to CBS News.
“Families will not be required to sign away their rights to sue in order to claim compensation from Boeing’s fund,” Boeing said on M0nday.
The amount will be paid for each person who perished in the Ethiopian Airlines crash as well as the Indonesian accident that happened on October 2018.
On Monday, Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg expressed deepest sympathies to families who lost their loved ones in the two accidents.
The compensation offer does not stop the family member’s right to file a lawsuit against Boeing. Reports indicate that nearly 100 cases have been filed against the company since the crashes occurred.
