President Kenyatta's Cheap Houses Plan Gets Sh21 Billion Boost

President Kenyatta on Tuesday signed into law the Supplementary Appropriation Bill No. 2 of 2018.

The law requires the National Treasury to issue Sh47 billion from the Consolidated Fund for the provision of various government services in the current financial year.

The allocations in the new law represent a significant reduction from what was allocated in the previous financial year and is in line with the ongoing austerity measures aimed at reducing government expenditure.

The State Department of Housing, which is implementing the affordable housing pillar of President Uhuru's Big Four development agenda, has gotten the lion's share of the fund. The department has been allocated Sh21 billion.

Other key beneficiaries include State Department of Public Works (Sh1.9 billion) and the Judiciary (Sh1.5 billion).

State Department of Tourism will get Sh2 billion for promotion programs while the State Department of Wildlife has been allocated Sh873 million.

The Bill was presented to President Kenyatta for signing at State House, Nairobi by National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.
