A man has been arrested for attempting to disrupt the State funeral service of the late former president Mwai Kibaki at Nyayo National Stadium.
Allan Makana, who claims to be Kibaki’s grandson, was whisked away by security officials after making his way to the man dais and demanding to speak just after the final prayers.
“Allow me just two minutes to make a few remarks,” the man pleaded with Archbishop Anthony Muheria on a live microphone as he concluded the final prayers.
The clergyman held and moved him aside before he was hurriedly picked up by security officers.
“He is a son of our nation who is emotional at the loss of our president, treat him well,” Archbishop Muheria pleaded with the security officials.
Makana caused a scene at Parliament buildings on Tuesday as he cried loudly demanding to be allowed to view Kibaki’s body as it lay in state for three days.
“Why allow him to go soon? Why?! Why? Why? He is my president, he has been my distant grandfather… Why allow him to go soon?” he wailed at parliament. “I need to see him, he gave me free education.”
Makana, who hails from Bungoma, claimed people call him Kibaki due to his resemblance to the former president.
