United States Ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter has excited Kenyans on social media after he tweeted in Swahili.
In a tweet on Sunday evening, McCarter demystified how corruption has impoverished Kenyans.
His tweet has attracted over 700 comments, close to 3,000 re-tweet and more than 5,000 likes.
Kenyans reacted to the tweet by hailing Ambassador McCarter for his boldness and straight forwardness as they urged him to help the country tame corruption.
@leemakwiny said:”Sisi hatuna uwezo. Hatuna nguvu.. Kama unaweza saidia sisi, tutafurahi sana.”
@sotuoma noted:”Precise. Huyo mbwa lazima auwawe.Thank you Mr. Ambassador for your very clear message on corruption which is draining our country. No sector is spared by this dog including budget ya watoto mayatima.”
@johnnjenga stated: “Usiruhusu umbwa huyo mkubwa na mnono kuweka pesa Amerika. Usimpe huyo mbwa mkubwa mnono visa ya kwenda Amerika.”
Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi noted:” Honest, truthful, direct, Frank and brutally forthright Bwana Balozi.”
@ericnyaga said:” Huyu mbwa koko amejivalisha ngozi ya kondoo.
“This is happening right now!!!! Kenyans chief investigators are in NYC learning from the FBI,” Ambassador McCarter replied when asked what the US was doing to help Kenya fight graft.
Two weeks ago, McCarter won Kenyans’ hearts after mocking Kenyan leaders attending the annual prayer breakfast at Safari Park Hotel.
“Kenyan leaders are praying and asking for forgiveness for the sin of thievery at the 17th annual National Prayer Breakfast. What a good start to take the nation on the path of prosperity the wananchi deserve. We must all do our part,” McCarter sarcastically tweeted.
Mr. Ambassador please stop…
Mr. Ambassador please stop theatrics. There’s too much suffering in Kenya due to corruption. Your proof of grasp of Swahili will not alleviate the pain to families suffering from hunger, lack of proper medical facilities and education. As you write your post, Kenyan DPP is now here in the US to talk about corruption. A mission that will yield nothing!
Mr. Ambassador, please ask Mr. Trump to lobby his European teams to do the following:
1 Freeze all accounts of anyone associated with graft
2. Ban them from traveling to US, EU, Australia, Canada etc. for any reason including family education and medical trips (they need to build better hospitals and schools in Kenya)
3. Stop all funding including borrowing, Aid, NGOs etc. until there’s a credible legislation passed to promote transparency, prevent impunity, ban harambees etc.
4. Make sure no family member is in western world for any reason including education or medical. Any immediate family member of anyone associated with corruption who is currently in any western country should be deported until Kenyan government put things in order.
5. The ban should be extended to members of the Judiciary including Chief Justice since they are also applying selective justice – only poor people are in jail due to stiff penalty while corrupt/rich are arrogantly roaming around even governors known to be murderers.
Wakenya hawa, wanaona aibu (ashamed) kusema Kiswahili.
The fight against corruption…
The fight against corruption will start with us. We have the means to stop corruption but we keep asking outsiders to do it for us. Ambassador Kyle McCarter is tweeting to awaken us from our sleep. Ambassador Kyle McCarter is tweeting to educate us that we have thieves not leaders.
