Gachagua's Ally Joins Ruto Camp During President's Mt Kenya Tour

Maragua Constituency Member of Parliament Mary Wamaua has publicly declared her support for President William Ruto.

During President Ruto's development tour in Nyandarua County on Thursday, April 3, Wamaua signalled her departure from the previous backing of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, a move that could reshape regional political dynamics. Addressing a gathering, Wamaua acknowledged her past misjudgments and expressed confidence in President Ruto’s leadership.

"Professor Kithure Kindiki is my good friend. I know, Mr. President, you have been watching me, and I have been in talks with Kindiki since November," she stated, indicating ongoing discussions that led to her realignment.

The declaration comes after President Ruto’s tour of Central Kenya, which included visits to Ol Kalou, Kinangop, Kangema, and Maragua. Addressing her constituents, Wamaua affirmed her changed loyalty, stating, "The President asked me a question, and because the people who employed me have spoken, whoever you call your president, I also call my president."

Wamaua's previous role as one of Gachagua’s most vocal defenders adds weight to her shift. She had opposed attempts to impeach the former Deputy President, emphasizing regional unity. Following Gachagua’s removal, she maintained ties, appearing with him at public events, including a church service in Mathioya, Murang’a County. Wamaua concluded her remarks with a pledge of service to President Ruto, underscoring her commitment to advancing the development agenda of Maragua and Murang’a County.

"So, Mr. President, I am your servant, and I hope you utilize my services to take Maragua and Murang’a forward," she stated.
