Ruto Launches Multi-Billion Shilling Development Projects in Mount Kenya

President William Ruto commenced a five-day tour of the Mount Kenya region today. 

He launched and inspected multi-billion-shilling development projects while assuring residents of the government's dedication to inclusivity and equitable resource allocation. The tour, which began in Laikipia and Nyeri counties, is viewed by the administration as a mid-term progress report on its commitments to the region. Speaking in Nanyuki, President Ruto refuted allegations of regional isolation, emphasizing that his administration values the significant support Mount Kenya provided during the 2022 elections. 

He pledges fair representation and development for all communities, stating, "No community, county, or region will be left behind." The President's remarks come in response to claims from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who alleged exclusionary tactics against Mount Kenya leaders within government structures following his impeachment in late 2024. 

President Ruto dismisses these claims, highlighting the administration's inclusive nature, and pointing to the inclusion of former opposition members in key government positions. The President’s itinerary included the inspection of a Sh350 million modern market under construction in Nanyuki, the launch of classroom construction at Nanyuki DEB Primary and Junior Secondary School, and pledges to upgrade the Nanyuki-Rumuruti road and rehabilitate the local stadium. 

Additional projects unveiled include rural electrification initiatives valued at Sh847 million and efforts to enhance internet connectivity across the region. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who accompanied President Ruto, addressed concerns regarding divisive rhetoric, urging leaders to prioritize national unity and development. He lauded the government's achievements in stabilizing the economy and fostering agricultural growth, noting improved earnings for coffee farmers. 

The visit, which included the presence of numerous Cabinet Secretaries, Members of Parliament, and governors, served as an opportunity to update the public on the administration’s progress and to strengthen ties with the Mount Kenya region. During the visit, residents, including traditional dancers and boda boda operators, gathered to welcome the delegation.
