Makau Mutua Dismisses Social Media Reports of Clandestine Meeting with Gachagua

Law professor Makau Mutua has publicly denied reports circulating on social media that he met with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, refuting claims of a clandestine meeting that has fueled speculation about shifting political alliances.

The denial follows allegations made by blogger Scophine Aoko Otieno, who reported that Mutua, a prominent strategist for opposition leader Raila Odinga, was seen with Gachagua and former Attorney General Githu Muigai at Sarvid Garden on Kiambu Road. Mutua has responded to the allegations via social media, stating that while he was at Sarvid Garden, his visit was solely to meet with Senior Counsel Paul Muite.

The alleged meeting's timing is sensitive, coinciding with Gachagua's recent public overtures toward Odinga, signaling a potential for collaboration that could reshape the political landscape. Gachagua has expressed openness to working with Odinga, a proposition that Gladys Wanga, National Chairperson of Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), indicated would be carefully considered based on alignment of political principles.

These developments occur amidst growing unease within the ruling coalition, with reports suggesting high-profile individuals are vying for positions in a potential government reshuffle. This internal jostling has intensified speculation regarding a possible rapprochement between Odinga and President William Ruto, further complicating the political environment.
