A driver was burnt to death on Sunday morning after being involved in an accident along Thika Superhighway.
The driver is said to have lost control of his Mercedes S-Class vehicle while negotiating a bend in the Pangani tunnel and crashed into the wall of the pavement, according to a police report.
The car burst into flames following the impact of the crash that occurred at 1:20 am.
The driver managed to get out of the vehicle but was unfortunately overwhelmed by the flames and fell about a meter from the car where he died.
“A self-involved fatal road traffic accident occurred today at about 0120hrs along Thika Super Highway at Pangani tunnel involving a motor vehicle registration number KCT 9851 make Mercedez Benz 5300 driven by an unknown male adult of about 45 years,” reads a police report.
“The driver managed to get out of the vehicle but unfortunately was overwhelmed by the fire flames and fall about one meter away and died on the spot.”
Firefighters from Nairobi City County responded to the scene and put out the fire.
The body of the deceased was moved to City Mortuary pending identification and autopsy while the vehicle was towed to Pangani police station.
Police said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
