Uhuru Convenes Crisis Meeting Amid Rising Cases of Covid-19 Infections and Deaths

President Kenyatta has convened a crisis meeting next week to discuss the rising cases of Covid-19 in the country.

The 6th Extraordinary Session of the National and County Governments Coordinating Summit will be held on Wednesday, November 4th, according to State House.

State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena said the summit was called in the light of the fact that the country has reported its highest Covid-19 monthly deaths in October.

“The session shall consider the evolution of the disease as well as the epidemiological models on how COVID-19 may propagate within our country over the months of November and December 2020,” Dena said in a statement.

“The session shall also review the efficacy of the containment measures in place, as well as the impact of the easing of the restrictions that were in place.”

Uhuru has further called on Kenyans to continue observing preventive measures announced by the Health Ministry in order to defeat the scourge.

“Kenyans should continue to wear face masks correctly while in public spaces, apply correct hand hygiene at all times, and adhere with the physical and social distancing guidelines and protocols that have been put in place to safeguard our individual and collective health and safety.”

“By doing so, Kenyans will ensure that our Nation does not lose the hard-fought-for ground secured in the fight against COVID-19, and also that our Nation shall not be compelled to roll-back the easing of the restrictions that Kenyans enjoy today,” State House added.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe says the country’s positivity rate surged to 20.5 percent in October from 4.4 percent in September.

16 more Covid-19 fatalities were confirmed on Wednesday raising the death toll to 950 while the number of infections increased by 1,018 to 51,851.
