For the second day in a row, Kenya has recorded its highest daily increase in the number of Covid-19 infections, bringing the total positive cases in the country to 1,618.
On Thursday, May 28th, the Health Ministry announced 147 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in the past 24 hours, an increase from 123 recorded in the previous day.
The 147 new cases, all Kenyan nationals aged between one and 78 years, are from 2,831 samples examined in various laboratories around the country. 87 of the patients are males while 60 are females.
The new infections are distributed across 11 counties including Nairobi (90 cases), Mombasa (41), Kiambu (3), Nyeri (2), and Uasin Gishu (2). Kajiado, Kilifi, Embu, Homa Bay, Murang’a, and Machakos counties have one new case each.
At the same time, 13 more Covid-19 patients were discharged from the hospital, raising the total number of recoveries to 421 while the death toll from the virus jumped by three to 58.
“The two persons who died of the disease in Mombasa had pre-existing medical conditions,” said Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.
So far, Kenya has tested 70,172 samples for coronavirus with Nairobi leading with 835 infections followed by Mombasa (490), Kajiado (65), and Kiambu (39).
